What is
snoring and what causes snoring ?
Snoring in
normally healthy people are believed to be caused by obstruction in the
upper respiratory tract.

Obstructed nasal airways resulting from swollen mucous membranes.

Poor
muscle tone of the tongue and throat.

Breathing
through the mouth during sleep will cause the nose and throat
membranes to become dry and swollen. The dehydrated membranes will
vibrate (snoring) when air passes through the mouth.
Tips to
prevent snoring :

Snoring
may be averted by sleeping prone or on one's side with head slightly
raised.

If
possible, do not fall asleep on your back.

It is
best to avoid alcoholic beverages, sleeping pills or antihistamines
before bedtime as these often causes a dehydrating effect that may
result in snoring.

Being
overweight has also been related to snoring.
